Welcome from the Parents’ Program
Dear Stanford Parents:
It is a pleasure to welcome the families of the Class of 2016 to the Stanford family. We are excited to share the next four years with you. For parents of returning students, we’re looking forward to another great year.
The mission of the Stanford Parents’ Program is to involve and engage Stanford parents through a variety of opportunities. As a Stanford parent, you have many ways to get involved whether you live across the street or across the globe from campus, and we hope you’ll take advantage of them. Your student helps make Stanford what it is, and we’re here to help you discover all that Stanford has to offer.
Attend parent events
Attending parent events both here on campus or in your area is a wonderful way to get to know and keep in touch with fellow Stanford parents. The Parents’ Program organizes parent receptions each year across the country and beyond in order to provide parents with an opportunity to meet one another, share advice and hear the latest news from campus from a senior university spokesperson. We will be in touch when we come to your area.
We especially hope you will be able to join us on campus for Parents’ Weekend 2013. The dates this year are Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. Visit the website for more information.
Become involved with Stanford in your local area
All parents, whether alumni or not, are encouraged to become part of the Stanford community in their local area through the Stanford Alumni Association (SAA). From book clubs and lifelong learning programs to events with distinguished faculty and even tailgate parties, SAA offers opportunities to connect with other Stanford parents, alumni and friends. As parents, you will automatically receive e-mails about local SAA events and opportunities in your area. Your participation is welcome and encouraged!
Volunteer as a Stanford parent
You can also become involved with Stanford as a parent volunteer. From hosting events to becoming active in your local SAA chapter to making fundraising calls on behalf of The Stanford Fund for Undergraduate Education, there are a number of ways to become involved. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please email me at j.girvin.harrison@stanford.edu.
Support Stanford and The Stanford Fund for Undergraduate Education
Annual support from parents is critical to ensure continued excellence in the undergraduate experience at Stanford. Last year, more than 5,900 parents, like you, chose to support Stanford and their child by making a gift to The Stanford Fund for Undergraduate Education. Contributions enable the president to provide resources to areas of highest priority, such as need-based scholarships and academic and student-life initiatives. Gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated and truly make a difference!
Parents who contribute $1,500 or more annually (per family) to The Stanford Fund for Undergraduate Education become “Parent Partners” and receive the following benefits:
- Invitations to special events during Parents’ Weekend and throughout the year
- Recognition in Stanford publications
- Special communications
If you’d like more information on making a contribution to The Stanford Fund, please visit our website.
Welcome to the start of another exciting year at Stanford University!
