Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Kennedy, author of “Freedom from Fear: The American People in Depression and War, 1929-1945,” will be among the Stanford faculty members giving “Back to School Classes” during the annual Parents’ Weekend, Feb. 27 and 28.

Other featured faculty members include Patrick Hunt, director of the Stanford Hannibal Alpine Project, talking about discovering Hannibal’s path through the Alps; Clayborne Carson, director of the Martin Luther King Papers Project, talking about King’s pilgrimage to India; and Patricia Burchat, the Gabilan Professor of Physics, talking about “The Dark Side of the Universe.”
Parents’ Weekend gives family members a sense of what students experience while living and learning at the university and insight into such issues as study abroad, graduate school and career services. Weekend events include performances, tours, open houses and meals in the dining halls.
The faculty lectures are among the most popular offerings during the weekend, which generally draws about 3,000 family members to campus. Parents are asked to register by Jan. 23 at parentsweekend.stanford.edu and are encouraged to arrange accommodations early.

Student groups performing are the Stanford Fleet Street Singers, Kayumanggi, Mixed Company, Jam Pac'd and Raagapella.
Parents’ Weekend is coordinated by Stanford Events. A schedule is available at http://parentsweekend.stanford.edu. For information, call (650) 736-9018 or e-mail parentsweekend@stanford.edu.
